USUA # A55734 - EAA # 0532898 About Jim: I've been a mechanically minded person all my life. I began flying at age 7, and have always been excited about it. I served in the United States Navy, as an aircraft mechanic (Reciprocating Engines, "Big Radials"). I am Self taught in Helicopter Flight and Dynamics and I have Built and Flown Two Helicopters. |
||||
| The First of the two, was a Home-Built Design from 1958, by Adams and Wilson, whom worked at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in California. It was known as the Hobby Copter. Later on to be re-named the A/W Choppy, powered by a 650 Triumph Bonneville Motorcycle engine. I Modified the Design slightly, and made some engine changes, and after "tons" of R & D Work, Flew 25 hours into it. I then re-named it the Adams / Wilson Light Helicopter. I am also the Curator of the Adams / Wilson Light Helicopter Information Pak. I bought a Newer Helicopter, known as the Scorpion Two. It was the Brain Child of B.J. Shram, who in 1970 built his First one. I re-designed it somewhat, and Modified the Engine, to develope more horse power, And after 200 hours of R & D, ended up with 56 hours of flight time on her. After having a Work related injury, I had to sell her, due to the fact of Nerve Damage to my Left Neck, Shoulder, Arm, and Hand. Well... now I have a Quad City Challenger 1, and Boy oh Boy, is it a Great Flying, and Fun Aircraft.
P.S. I've also modified it! Click HERE for pictures of its modification. I am also a Proud member of the "Fly Challenger Groups @ Yahoo .Com"
